Frankie Avalon on American Idol

Yesterday at elimination night, there was a surprise guest: Frankie Avalon! He sang the song Venus and made some of us remember songs from old times. Frankie Avalon was “the man” back in the 50s and 60s and was even a sex symbol.

I remember him from one of my favorite movies when I was a child: grease.  He was like an angel I that movie that sang with the girls who worked at the dinner.

Frankie Avalon Venus became the number one song in 1959’s Billboard Top 100.  Many of young viewers may have no idea who he is though. Here’s a classic video of the song.
