California Supreme Court Prop 8 Decision

Today we got to know the California Supreme Court Prop 8 decision, and well this decision upheld the ban on same sex marriage.  It does not nullify though the 18,000 marriages that took place while it was lawful. Despite that voters of Proposition 8 wanted to make them not valid.

Same sex couples have still have civil unions rights, but the majority has voted for marriage to be only among heterosexuals. These are terrible news for gay rights groups who want an equal treatment in society. Shannon Minter from the National Center for Lesbian Rights said about the Prop 8 decision:

“a terrible blow to the thousands of gay and lesbian Californians who woke up this morning hoping and praying their status as equal citizens of this state would be restored. It made it painfully clear that we must go back to the voters to restore equality.”

Those were the news on the California Supreme Court Prop 8 decision.
