Ground Beef Recall 2009

There’s a ground beef recall issued after one person died apparently contaminated by E. Coli bacteria, the death took place at New Hampshire. It has been reported also that two other people present symptoms of being sick.

The meat, sold in several retail stores were packaged on September 15-16 with sell-by dates from 19-28. This recall may be linked to the recall that took place in Maine of almost 600,000 pounds of ground beef.

The ground beef recall involved various labels, customers need to check the package label and look for the name of the product, and the sell-by-date. Recalled products will show an establishment number of “EST 492″ inside the mark of inspection.

H1N1 Vaccine Adverse Effects

Many things have been said about the end of the World with the H1N1 swine flu, but what about the dangers and the H1N1 vaccine adverse effects? This is something we should think about, instead of just rushing to be injected with a formula we don’t know if it will work or not.

Right now pregnant women and small children are receiving the vaccine, but they are also the ones who are more exposed to the adverse effects of the swine flu vaccine. It has been reported that thousands of Irish children became ill after receiving the vaccine, one children even got the H1N1 virus after he was given the shot!

Deaths in Sweden also were reported yesterday. Some of the people who died from the vaccine were elderly patients, although these are the first deaths from the vaccine reported, this doesn’t mean there aren’t more of them. People need to evaluate the pros and cons of having a vaccine injected. Shouldn’t a vaccine be safe? These deaths are not caused by a virus.

What is the Angelman Syndrome?

The Angelman Syndrome is a neuro-genetic disorder that makes the patient frequently laugh or smile, flap hands, it brings developmental delay, trouble sleeping.  It has come to news lately after it was known that Colin Farrell’s son James suffer from this disorder.

In previous years it was known as the “happy puppet syndrome”, but this term now is considered stigmatizing.

There is no cure available nowadays for the Angelman Syndrome. Only medications are used to control convulsions.

Sassy Water Recipe

Sassy Water can be a great alternative to replace your soda intake! It is a cheaper alternative and by putting away soda you will be able to drop pounds and stay in shape! There are different sassy water recipes on the Web, Here are a couple of them:

Ingredients:

8.5 cups of water
1 tbsp of grated ginger
1 medium cucumber
1 medium lemon
12 spearmint leaves

To prepare it, combine all the ingredients and let it inside the fridge all night.  Next day you can drink this water, make sure you drink it all in the following day!

Or

Ingredients:

2 quarts of water
12 mint leaves
1 tbsp grated ginger
1 medium cucumber peeled and sliced
1 lemon sliced thin

On a container put 2 quarts of water; add the ingredients to the water.  The steps to make Sassy water are similar to the steps above.  Put it on the fridge overnight.

Aspirin Colon Cancer

Some new studies have shown that Aspirin may not only be good to prevent heart attacks, but also to reduce the risk of developing colon cancer. The author of the study is Andrew Chan, who said it :

“suggests that aspirin can have a role not only in preventing the initial formation of a tumor but also preventing its development, progression and spread,”

The 5 Factor diet is another weight loss method developed by Harley Pasternak, fitness advisor of the stars. Pasternak has appeared on several popular TV shows, and also has been featured in the nation’s top magazines.  Now he is looking to reach thousands of people with his 5 factor diet.

The 5 Factor Diet plan is designed to lose weight in 6 weeks.  A simple look at it makes it look very easy, unlike other methods that require huge sacrifices.

It involves eating 5 meals a day, eating 5 ingredient meals, performing 25 minutes of workout, and having 5 cheat days over the 5 weeks.  As you can see the man has gone crazy with the number 5!

Clarcon Products Bacteria FDA Warning

The FDA has issued a warning against Clarcon products, as they have been found to contain several types of bacteria dangerous to us. Clarcon is known for the skin related products and sanitizers.  DO NOT use them.

Including in the products that are contaminated with bacteria are:

Citrushield Lotion, Dermassentials by Clarcon Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer, Total Skin Care Beauty, Dermasentials, DermaBarrier, , Iron Fist Barrier Hand Treatment, Skin Shield Restaurant, Skin Shield Industrial, Skin Shield Beauty Salon Lotion, and Total Skin Care Work.

If you currently have one of these products just throw them. So far there are no reports on infections from Clarcon products, but the FDA warning says the risk is very high.  Us Marshall has seized all products and ingredient from Clarcon facility.

Kristen Diane Parker Hepatitis C

Kristen Diane Parker is the woman who passed the Hepatitis C to patients at Rose Medical Center, where she worked as a technician. Here is a picture of her, taken by the police:

Parker stole syringes and changed them for used, infected ones.  So nurses were in fact spreading the disease without even knowing! Some reports pint out that Parker also worked in another medical center.

Now, there’s a major scare over this problem.  Thousands of people will now have to test if there is a presence of Hepatitis C in their bodies. So far there are ten cases, but with this disease symptoms can take years to be noticed.  She has been put in jail for this crime. One of the patients, Pat Criscito, said:

“She knew she had hepatitis C, she’s a health care worker and she understands how this disease is spread,”

“If I was going to die, she deserves life in prison. I can’t understand how somebody can do that to another human being,”

PARP Inhibitor | Cancer Research News

PARP Inhibitor are substances that that have an action on cancer cells altering their ability to grow and replicate DNA.  According to some studies it should make chemotherapy more effective.  The use of PARP inhibitors has been discussed greatly over the last years, and also its application with chemotherapy.

On recent news, we get the information that PARP inhibitors show specificity for BRCA tumors. From Medpage Today we have the following info:

An investigational cancer therapy demonstrated significant antitumor activity in patients with BRCA1/2 mutations, according to the investigators in the most recent string of favorable studies. [...]only mutation carriers had responses to the oral inhibitor of poly(adenosine diphosphate [ADP]-ribose) polymerase (PARP). However, the agent demonstrated activity in patients with breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer.

Authors of the study said:

“This tumor-specific defect can be exploited by using PARP inhibitors to induce selective tumor cytotoxicity, sparing normal cells,PARP inhibition in these tumor cells with deficient homologous-recombination repair generates unrepaired DNA single-strand breaks that are likely to cause the accumulation of DNA double-strand breaks and collapsed replication forks.”

Toll House Cookie Dough Recall

Nestle has issued a Toll House Cookie Dough recall today. The FFDA are warning consumers to avoid eating any variety of this popular cookie dough brand. This is because it is feared contamination of E coli.

If you have any product of Nestle Toll House, throw it away.  Further infection can be spread even by cooking the dough, as the bacteria can go to your hands and other cooking appliances.

According to the press release:

Nestlé USA’s Baking Division is initiating a voluntary recall of Nestlé® TOLL HOUSE® refrigerated cookie dough products. Nestlé is taking this action out of an abundance of caution after being notified that the Food and Drug Administration, together with the Centers for Disease Control, are conducting an investigation into reported E. coli 0157:H7 illnesses that may be related to consumption of raw cookie dough.

Libby Montana Asbestos

Libby Montana asbestos - Then EPA, Environmental Protection Agency has declared a health emergency at Libby, Montana because of Asbestos. The announcement was given by EPA administrator Lisa Jackson today.

This will not result in an evacuation but will need of thorough cleanup in houses in the Montana community, and the implementation of new measures to protect residents from asbestos-related diseases.

Lisa Jackson called this situation a “tragic public health situation” that has been overlooked by the government.

“Based on a rigorous re-evaluation of the situation on the ground, we will continue to move aggressively on the cleanup efforts and protect the health of the people; we’re here to help create a long and prosperous future for this town.”
