Storkcraft Crib Recall - massive crib recall
In the largest crib recall in U.S. history, more than 2.1 million drop-side cribs by Stork Craft Manufacturing are being voluntarily withdrawn because hardware failures have trapped 15 children and suffocated four.
Nearly 150,000 cribs carry the Fisher-Price logo.
The crib sides slide up and down to make it easier to lift infants. Hardware can break, deform or get lost over the years. Some cribs failed because parents did not assemble them properly.
The cribs were sold from January 1993 through last month at major retailers including BJ’s Wholesale Club, J.C. Penney, Kmart, Meijer, Sears, USA Baby, and Walmart stores, and online at Amazon.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com, Target.com, and Walmart.com. More than 1.2 million cribs were sold in the United States and almost 1 million in Canada, where Stork Craft is based.
The recall does not affect fixed-side cribs.
Read the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s new release for details about the problems, where to call for more information and how to get a free repair kit.

Over 2.1 million drop-side cribs, manufactured by Stork Craft, have been recalled in the United States and Canada.
It is one of the biggest crib recalls in U.S. history.
The recall involves Stork Craft drop-side cribs and Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo.
The CPSC has advised parents and caregivers to stop using the recalled cribs immediately and wait for a free repair kit.
Nearly 5 million cribs have been recalled in the last two years.
“I think it’s just the next step in trying to move to a safer crib,” said Nancy Cowles, Executive Director of Kids in Danger.
The drop rail can detach from the crib, leaving a gap into which babies can become stuck and suffocate, officials said.
“It’s the one place intended to leave a child unattended. So in all likelihood, if something does happen, the parent probably won’t be there at the time, and so we need to make them as safe as possible,” said Cowels.
