Dr. Regina Benjamin | Surgeon General
Regina Benjamin will be designated today by President Obama as the U.S. Surgeon General. She was the first Afro-American woman to direct a state medical society. Last year Dr. Regina Benjamin received the “genius grant” given by the Mac Arthur Foundation, she also received the Nelson Mandela Award.
During the aftermath of Katrina, Regina Benjamin become a key figure in rebuilding her rural health clinic Bayou La Batre, allowing thousands of patient find help that they would hardly find anywhere else at that time.
The announcement will be made today in the Rose Garden. Congratulations to Dr. Regina Benjamin!
