What is the Nemenhah Band?

Nemenhah Band - The Nemenhah band is a religious group based in Missouri. They have become popular after news of a boy with cancer refusing chemotherapy have come to the light.  A judge has ruled that the boy goes under this therapy.

The Nemenhah band use only natural methods for healing, methods employed by American Indians. Here is what they say about themselves:

“The Nemenhah Band and Native American Traditional Organization (Oklevueha Native American Church of Sanpete) was established as an Indigenous Group and People by Self Determination through the original writing and ratification of the Band Constitution in 2003 by the General Council of Nemenhah Mothers. Phillip ‘Cloudpiler’ Landis, NAP, ND, was elected to the position of Principle Medicine Chief and has been re-elected every year since then by the unanimous vote of the yearly Great Council of the Nemenhah. At the same time, the Band was established as an Independent Branch of the Oklevueha Native American Church of Utah, and later of the Oklevueha/Sioux Nation Allied Native American Church, under the direction of Chief Richard ‘He Who Has The Foundation’ Swallow, Head of the Eagle Clan of the Lakota and the Rosebud Native American Church.”

Despite their beliefs, shouldn’t a parent decide what is better for their son, who says the government or judges are better suited for it? What do you think?

    Nobody gives parents a test or license, so no they are not always in the no in what is the best interest of their child especially when they are brainwashed by religion or a cult.

    This child will die and for all we know he could kick the cult habit in the future if he chose not to mindlessly follow the illogical rules of nutbags.

    This is truly sad, it is as if the parents don’t care that they know better than the doctors do, this is really and truthfully ridiculous to brain wash your child into believing in something like that, this child has a right to live, he is so young!

    I trust that most parents attempt to make the best choices for their children. But, the court system has always had the responsibility to intervene in cases of neglect or abuse. Parents do not have the right to endanger the lives of their children by their foolish misinformed beliefs, regardless of their intentions. And, 13 year old children are not competent to decide such a decision on their own.

    This is how it should be — if only the courts ruled in the interest of children rather than parents’ rights more often.

    The child has a likely fatal brain tumour, but he does not believe he is ill. I think this says everything about this child’s ability to make an informed decision. The child should not be allowed to die for the sake of safeguarding the parent’s choice to be stupid.

    I would like to think that you want what is best for your child, my whole family would do anything for my nephew who is only 4 years old with leukemia. why not try both treatments? to see your child go thru chemo is painful, but if he beats cancer it is worth it.

    My name is julie. I was hit by a driver in 2000 in California and it has left me in terrible pain called fibromyalgia I tried all the pain meds which do not control my pain. I am doing chiropractic treatment which helps alot. The side effects from meds are horrible. I no longer take them. The child has rights under he u.s constitution and someone should listen to what he wants. How do you know herbal rememdies do not work unless you try them. With chiropractic therapy I can lead a normal life and not be a zombie from white mans medicine.

    you see this is what is wrong with our country today, people are brainwashed to think that the government knows what is best for us and our children. When right under our noses the food and drug administration (FDA) is slowly killing us. Imagine that…. They are suppose to protect us, but they don’t, and judges violate our constitutional rights on a daily basis, and they wonder why we are under attack from terrorists and other nations. Come on get real. This country is hated by so many, because of the “socialistic” belief system, and believe me it is very socialistic. The courts tell you what you can and can’t do when raising your children. What is the point in us trying to be parents. NO I do not fully agree with the decision made by this kids parents, but it is noone elses business, they are the parents not the government. I am so sick and tired of the government butting in on everything. They do it to other countries as well. Mind Your Own Business, leave people alone, This is suppose to be America the land of the FREE.

    I feel sad this child is being forced against what he believes It makes you think about living in america where we have no rights when a judge forces you that is wrong any way you slice it. I wish him well I would ask the judge to look at the damage he has done. He took this childs rights away doesn’t any care about him. what a shame.

    it seems to me I have made a decision i am sticking with my rights to go to the chiro and message therapy and if they judge doesn’t like that WELL GO STICK IT. the problem with judges and the government they enjoy power and abuse it every day I have news for them we voted you in guess what we can vote you out how do you like those apples.
