Today is May 5th, that’s cinco de mayo in Spanish and the date of one of the most important Mexican celebrations for immigrants.

Contrary to what many people believe, this is not a date widely celebrated in Mexico. It is mostly celebrated in the state of Puebla, to celebrate the initial victory of Mexican force over the French at the battle of Puebla, which took place in May 5^th, 1862.

Then why is it mostly celebrated in USA and other countries? Because this holiday celebrates the Mexican pride and heritage, is a reminder of Mexican roots.

Many people, specially in America, think that this is the Independence Day of Mexico and they are wrong, it would be September 16. So there you have a snippet of knowledge.
