Japanese Detergent Suicide, A Suicide Wave on Japan?
Detergent Suicide - A Japanese girl commited suicide today by mixing detergent with cleanser, and act that also affected neighbors because of the released fumes in her apartment house. None of the neighbours were seriously sick although 10 were sent to the hospital.
This suicide is part of a wave of suicides that has been hitting Japan. It seems that Internet suicide sites are to blame for the detergent suicides. This kinda remembers me the movie “The Suicide Club”, a japanese movie that closely resembles the actual situation in this country.
Similar deaths with detergents were reported on a 31-year-old man and a 42-year-old-woman. Police can’t comment on the case. But apparently the number of detergent suicides goes up to 30 this year.
“It’s easy and everyone can do it,” said Yasuaki Shimizu, director of Lifelink, a Tokyo-based group specializing in halting suicides. “Also there is a lot of information teaching people how to do it on the Internet.”
This method is also known as hydrogen sulfide suicide.
The government has earmarked the equivalent of $220 million for anti-suicide programs to help those with depression and other mental conditions.
What causes people to commit suicide like it is a trend? This is something Japan must give full attention to.
