Ultra HD – Ultra High Definition Video

Ultra HD - I just bought my first LCD TV for HD, and now I’ve found out about the development of Ultra HD video. This is the future of television, right now Ultra HD or UHDV is in its beginning stages but we all know how fast technology goes these days right?

The current high-end TVs use HDTV and the highest they offer is 1080p video. They are capable of displaying every pixel of the HD broadcasts.

Well UHDV contains 16 times the amount of pixels current HDs have! Not only that but the quality of the sound is also greatly improved. Ultra HD is being developed in Japan by NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories.

What is the goal of increase the already amazing display capacities of TVs? It is part of NHK plan for the future of TV: make the audience part of the content. The aim is to make people really feel that they are inside what’s on TV.

However with these big numbers and features, comes the reality of things: this technology is not ready to make it available to consumers. As you have probably guessed, the video and audio content for these type of TVs are heavy on data. A 18-minute clip weighs 3.5 terabytes! There’s no current type of support for this amount of data. In fact it would require a hard disc weighing 600 pounds!

I’m sure we’ll see this quality in the future. Like computers, cell phones and Ipods, technology works to decrease size of things.

This was the current information we have about Ultra HD.
