Actor Ivan Dixon from ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Dies at 76

Sad news for the showbiz today, specially for ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ fans. The actor Ivan Dixon has passed away today after an hemorrhage and complications of kidney failure according to his daughter Doris Nomathande Dixon of Charlotte.

Dixon acted in many roles, starting in Broadway. He acted on “The Cave Dwellers” and “A Raisin in the Sun”, part that he repeated on film also. In movies he acted on “something of Value” and “Car Wash” among others.

Ivan Dixon then worked on ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ in the role of Sgt. James Kinchloe, where most of people remember him. Although it was not the work that made him most proud, he felt good being recognized by this part.

“It was a pivotal role as well, because there were not as many blacks in TV series at that time,” Nomathande Dixon said. “He did have some personal issues with that role, but it also launched him into directing.”

His honors include four NAACP Image Awards, the National Black Theatre Award and the Paul Robeson Pioneer Award from the Black American Cinema Society. He was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Directors Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild of America and the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.

There will be no memorial or funeral. This in request of Dixon himself. He will always be remembered because great actors are also part of our lives. We’ll miss you Ivan!
