May Pang Presents New Lennon Book

Beatles fans out there, rejoice. There’s a new book out there with never-before-seen pictures of John Lennon from his “Lost Weekend” phase. The book is written by none other than May Pang, Lennon’s former assistant and partner from 73 to 75.

Although many fans are already calling Pang an opportunist, the truth is that this material gives us greater insight into this period of Lennon’s life. It has been said that this was a period where he was wasted and he wasn’t productive and all. But May Pang, now 57, is surprised by these statements, because she says that during those years he completed 3 albums: “Mind Games”, “Walls and Bridges” and “Rock n Roll”, besides working on other projects.

The new book is called “Instamatic Karma”. It is a 140-page collection of pictures.

“I began to think about publishing them just in the last couple of years,” Ms. Pang said on Monday at her publisher’s office in the Flatiron Building. “A friend of mine kept saying, ‘You tell all these stories about John, and when you do, you say, “Wait a minute, I have a photo to go along with that!” How come we never see these photos in a book?’ So, I thought maybe it’s time to put them out. It would let people see John in that world, through my eyes. And it would get rid of that whole ‘Lost Weekend’ thing, where everyone says he was always down and looked terrible. I don’t think these photos appear that way.”

However you think, this brings us another side of the life of John Lennon, a musical genius of our times. Legends never die.

    May herself confirms how unhappy John was with her in her first book “Loving John”. She states over and over how John was drunk, in fact she gave John being drunk MORE publicity then the two Troubador incidents. In her book she states six examples of John going on a drunken rampage. May also states several times in detail how John beat her and wanted to end the relationship more then once. How can she carry on now like it was some great love affair when she in her own words described how terrible this relationship was?
    Sorry, once you put something in print you can’t take it back like it never happened.

    May Pang was not a musician or a singer. She did some background vocals on #9 Dream saying “John” with Lori Burton, but she did not pursue any type of “career”. She continues to exploit John Lennon because to her, that was the only meaningful thing in her life. Never mind that she married Tony Visconti, was married for 10 years and has 2 kids. That does not seem to matter to her. What a book she could write about her time with Tony and all the people she met, but no, she continues to cling onto a thirty year old encounter that basically amounted to sexual harassment as she was indeed an employee. To be ordered by ones employer to sleep with their husband and to go ahead and do so, is beyond lack of class. Yes John can be hard to resist but at what cost? Your dignity, pride and self esteem? She needs therapy to get over what she allowed to happen to her.
