Drunkorexia – Don’t eat, just drink

These last days a new term has been entered into the world of unhealthy weight loss, and Hollywood weight loss trends: Drunkorexia.
Basically, it is the idea of replacing meals with alcoholic drinks. It certainly is not a revolutionary idea, but the new term is gaining strength. We see it everywhere in Hollywood and music: Tara Reid, Amy Winehouse, and other party girls who always stay slim.
This may work for some time, but it’s just plain wrong. And the worst thing is that these “celebrities” always project an image on teens, whether you like it or not. So, then this becomes a Hollywood’s long term diet plan followed by thousands. The ladies that engage in these activities start being beauty, but then they transform into skeleton-like beings that go from party to party.

Drunkorexia is a variation of anorexia and bulimia, and should be treated as that. Among the people who could be “drunkorexics” are college-age binge drinkers, so if you have someone you know with this profile you can help her. And why I say her? Because these activities are most common in women than men, ALTHOUGH you can find it also in men who are obsessed with their looks.
According to Dr Brunell, former president of the National Eating Disorders Association:
“Both disorders are behaviors that are glorified and reinforced,” Dr. Bunnell said. “Binge drinking is almost cool and hip, and losing weight and being thin is a cultural imperative for young women in America. Mixing both is not surprising, and it has reached a tipping point in terms of public awareness.”
What do you think about this? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Those were the news on Drunkorexia.
